tle
I have an '05 CTS and the Service A/C System code came up on my screen. The pressure was low and my local repairman (not a dealer) serviced my air conditioning and said it's fine. HOWEVER, he could not clear the message and it still comes up everytime I start the car. MUST I take this to a dealer to clear this code? I tried the f1 and f6 trick, did not work. Can anyone help?

Can anyone help? see your other thread, I am surprised that your AC repairman was able to put freon in, with a low freon code, try disconnecting the negative battery cable Wow this was my 15,000th post wow Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
joeb
the code is current for low a/c pressure and the system works? if it works than maybe after a certain number of key cycles it will clear? the diagnostic system on older cars lets you clear pcm codes and you have to manually go into the ACM section to clear the a/c codes. i have done it but its a 96, not an

BodybyFisher
PCM = powertrain control module ACM = AC Module See this link http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/index.html Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
BodybyFisher
See this for 03/04, there is a difference between nav and non nav systems, I didnt see 05 Checking Trouble Codes: For 2003/4 CTS with Navigation System: Press simulatneously the BAND button and bottom NAV button on the left side of the LCD and release. All instrument cluster and HVAC control lights will flash momentarily, then go off, and then a menu will appear on the LCD to read and clear DTCs. Note: This currently DOES NOT work on the CTS-V For 2003/4 CTS non Navigation System: Press and hold the F1 and F6 buttons simultaneously; the Driver Infomation Center (DIC) will clear and a menu will appear to read and clear DTCs. (Need to confirm this method) For 2004 CTS-V Call onstar if your check engine light comes on. They can then run a remote diagnostic and provide you the Trouble code. Check the below list to find out the problem. tle
Thanks BbFisher, but I tried the F1/F6 trick. It does not work on models after 2004. AND I cannot call Onstar, this car has analog Onstar and I was not willing to pay $150 to have it changed to digital Onstar. What a rip!

tle
Thanks so much! I did try disconnecting one terminal (don't know if it was neg or pos). I have been reading all that I can and I was worried about upsetting the entire system by disconnecting. There was some talk about it causing trouble with the climate control, etc. I will have the ole hubby try it tonight. Oh woe is me........

joeb
i used to work on a/c equipment so i like to read threads about a/c issues. sounds like your a/c is working but you cannot clear codes. is that correct?
tle
WHEEEE I tried the disconnect negative battery terminal and it worked!! The a/c was fixed by my mechanic, but the air was not working until we could get the code cleared. What a pain. Thanks Body By Fisher!
BodybyFisher
Glad you got it fixed, Not sure how he fixed it, a low refrigerant code, usually stops the compresser from coming on, but if you say its fixed terrific Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
Ranger
I agree with BBF. I'd be a little leary about the "fix". Low refrigerant triggers the message and the message disables the compressor. The compressor must be enabled to charge the system. I'd go back and ask him how he did that.
