It's always the little things that do you in....

How much pressure is at the power-steering return line out of the adapter at the pump? The little plastic clip that retains the line is broken. Looks very much like a 3/8" fuel-line clip, but those aren't long enough in the legs....3mm too short. I can't find the right clip and the dealer doesn't even show one.....assumes it comes with a new plastic adapter ($60+tax). I need to figure a way to retain the line in that adapter since I can't find the right clip. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you ruled out a hose clamp? The return line pressure should be minimal.

Never underestimate the amount of a persons greed.

I can't see how a clamp would work. The return pipe fits into the adapter about 1/2" to a knurl on the pipe which seals to the outer o-ring in the adapter. The U-shaped adapter clip 'retains' the pipe in the adapter. It may not even be needed. Once the steel line is installed in the adapter, it ain't goin' nowhere. That steel line has a bunch of bends in it and a welded clamp attaching it to the rear cylinder head. Problem I have is with that pipe and it's bends. The guy helping me pull the engine took a big 'yank' on the pump and changed the bends of both lines. The return is now too long and the bend-aspects are wrong to slip into the adapter. That line does some 'weaving' to get behind the idler-pulley and over/past the air-pipe and then to fit into the adapter......I'll figure something out, eventually. lol

This same adapter is on the 4.9 power steering pump. It was the first time I had ever seen one of those connectors and I broke it. I had to buy a new one, I am sure that you can get one at the dealer did you try? This part has to be available

Yes I tried. That's where I got the price for a new piece......

I wish they would continue supporting these types of parts, they are plastic, dry out and crack, what do they expect people to do

Ha! I went to return the Dorman 'fuel-line' clips. I explained to the kid I was dealing with that the 'legs' were too short. He did a 'hum', went to another part of the store and found the 'retention clips' I needed!! Same brand, different part of the store, different guy. The guy I bought the first ones from was in my age-group, so...

The original clips lasted 22yrs. I now own 5 new ones, so I'm good for another 100+yrs for retention clips.

For those interested: Dorman #800-004 (Ford 3/8" retaining clips)
