BodybyFisher
I need to replace mine and none of the many area parts stores have or can get them. Any ideas besides 'the dealer'? Thanks....... www.gmotors.com add shipping www.rockauto.com (maybe) add shipping www.gmpartsdirect.com add shipping dealer no shipping, use the price you get from the above and see if they match it Many parts you are forced to go to the dealer you will never find them in many area parts stores. You might be able to get them cheaper if you go to a chevy dealer with the bolt part number it will be cheaper there. Dave in Texas
I'd already checked those first three....no got. The other one: I can't find anything metric. Problem I've run into with these bolts is: the FSM states the wrong info on the bolt. FSM says it's a M10x1.50, but the 6 I'm replacing are M10x1.25......a finer thread than 1.5. If these were American thread bolts I'd say they were SAE thread. In '87 or before Cadillac went to ISO standards.....I know in the 11yrs I've had this car I've now got a hellofalot of metric tools....but even my '81F100 has a few metric bolts/nuts. I'll do more searching tomorrow before I call 'the dealer'..... Thanks for the help, I appreciate your time. GM Reman 4.1 engine Dec '
navion
I need to replace mine and none of the many area parts stores have or can get them. Any ideas besides 'the dealer'? Thanks....... If I remember correctly, the flexplate to crankshaft bolts are listed as "mandatory replacement" items due to the "Loctite" that is applied to the bolts threads when new. This "Loctite" is the main reason that the bolts are listed as "One Time Use". I have been in a situation where the new bolts were not available, so I used a standard "thread locker" type Loctite and torqued them to spec. We drove the car over 100,000 miles since then and they are still there. Of course, the safe bet would be to buy new ones, IF you can get them in a reasonable time. I doubt that they would cost more that $30.00 at the dealer. (I could be wrong!!) So either order some new bolts, or re-use your old ones and install them with Loctite. Either way should prove to be satisfactory. Britt Britt
Dave in Texas
Don't Ever Do This! 5/6 bolts had the threads damaged. How did that happen? Only way I could 'break' them loose was using my impact gun......a bad thing to use! Live/learn. I expected the bolts to cost $5ea at the dealer. I was wrong. A mere $4.99ea. Will arrive tomorrow. I visited a number of fastener purveyors, but no exact matches, so.....$4.99 x 5+8.25%tax is my lesson-learned. The original bolts had no Loctite on them. The flexplate to converter bolts did though. Dave in Texas
Ended up paying $14 with tax for the 5 bolts from the local Cad dealer. I got a discount! One good thing about going with the dealer is: they can search the inventory of any other dealer to locate and get parts! Ordered Monday, in my hands at Noon Tuesday. I have a new distributor cap & rotor/new plug wires/new plugs arriving Friday from RockAuto....saving almost $25 from local parts stores. The new engine will be in Sat and the car should be road-worthy again by Monday. GM Reman 4.1 engine Dec '
navion
I'm glad that you got new bolts. Did you get new torque converter bolts as well? Britt
