Rod
I am getting a P0717 code, "Input Turbine Sensor" not sending a signal. When I unplug the transmission from the wiring harness I get tranny fluid out of both ends of the plug. Any ideas of the best way to clean the fluid out of the plugs? I find that after I clean the plugs the error goes away only to return 15-20 minutes later. The plug is again full of fluid. I checked the harness and fluid is not traveling along it. I replaced the ABS unit a while back and when I removed the radiator I tucked the tranny cooler line behind some wiring to get it out of the way, the chances are good the tranny line drained into this plug causing my problems. Thanks
BodybyFisher
While it could be true what you are saying that tranny fluid leaked into that connector, what happens is that tranny fluid leaks out of the transmission at the point where the electrical conduit enters the transmission and the fluid leaches down, inside the wrapping and into the plug. The wetness in that plug COULD be your P0717 problem but given that you have a 96, your sensor is probably bad. The bad news is that the sensor is located in the side pan, and the engine must be tilted down to expose the side pan, and its behind the side cover. I did it this time last year along with the TCC solenoid and Pressure solenoid while I was there. Here is my experience with the P0717 code from the first time I got it through fixing it. Cadillac at first wanted to rebuild the tranny, until I unloaded my knowledge on him about replacing the sensor only, they still quoted me $1500 to $1600 telling me the carriage had to be dropped.. (not 100% true). I decided to do it myself after I spoke to one of their mechanics who said, TILT the engine and that is wht I did, it took me the better part of a month, but I did a ton of other work and only worked on weekends. I made a couple of mistakes, but the biggest mistake I made was not replacing the wiring harness, to stop that fluid leak into the plug., in addition I should have replaced the sprocket thrust bearings, but the job was going on and on and on. By the way, I drove my car for about a year with that problem, but didnt take it on a long trip. Shifting becomes rough and you loose overdrive First incidence of P0717 http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=10516 My speed sensor job http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=13481 Ray's excellent speed sensor job description http://www.caddyinfo.com/pc0717.htm Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

Thanks Electronic cleaner would probable be the best but knowing me, I would just use some starting fluid (ether) ... I usally buy it without the upper end lubracant in it, just for cleaning dirty greasy stuff... it's cheap and work great in my book ...
