steve6
i bought the sensor, can someone give me an idea where it is? I have both tires off, can't see it? Do i need to pull out anything out to get out at it? Thanks
Cadillac Jim
The sensor is on top of the right half-axle housing. If you turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, you can get at it with a creeper without jacking the car up or using a lift, if you are limber. It's held on by one bolt and has one two-wire connector. Be sure the connector contacts are clean. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. steve6
Thanks, i found it now, but any idea what that bolt is? feels like a tube cylinder with a hole in the middle, torx, allen key? anyone know, hard doing it blind!
Cadillac Jim
It's a metric hex bolt. I would try a 3/8" drive ratchet with a 10 mm socket. Follow the link that Bodybyfisher gave to a previous thread; there is a 3D diagram of the transmission that shows the VSS and its retaining bolt very clearly. It's inboard (toward the center of the car) and adjacent to the VSS. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. steve6
it must have had some kind of dust cover on it, eventually it poped off and just a 10 mm bolt at that point. It was sticking up about an inch and a half above the sensor casing, and not knowing what it was makes it pretty decieving. all replaced now, hopefully that fixes it. thanks
BodybyFisher
As you can see, another member in the thread I linked you to thought replacing that sensor was tricky... I have never replaced that sensor, but it seems that it is in fact a little tricky What were your symptoms? Did this fix the problem? steve6
As you can see, another member in the thread I linked you to thought replacing that sensor was tricky... I have never replaced that sensor, but it seems that it is in fact a little tricky What were your symptoms? Did this fix the problem? Cruise control was kicking off on me, it was leaving a code (would have to look it up if you want to know the code). And the speedo would jump around, 110..115...105..120 etc. Not all the time, very randomly for the most part, but almost guaranteed on a long ride where I wanted to use cruise, sometimes it would trigger the CEL.... Its all in now, but I have not used the car enough to tell, I'm sure it will fix it though.
steve6
it did not fix the issue, i lost cruise control on the weekend while bombing around in the caddy getting parts for my other car oh well, $30 wasted
BodybyFisher
Is the speedometer still jumping around also? That seems fixed right? Check the adjustment of your brake switch to see if its poorly adjusted and disengaging the cruise control. As you know tapping the brake disengages the cruise control Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
