BodybyFisher
Wel this can be a few things. First it can be a bad oil pressure switch on the oil filter adapter. It can be a bad connection at the oil pressure switch. Or it can in fact be low oil pressure. What kind of oil are you using type and viscosity. Did this happen at idle or coming to a stop? You might try using a high mileage oil, it has more seal conditioner in it and might help your case half seals. BodybyFisher
Are you using synthetic? Who is changing your oil, the dealer or a Jiffy Lube type chain? The engine block is split at the center of the crank shaft into two halfs. Between those halfs is a seal. That seal is complex and it seals not only oil from getting OUT of the engine, it seals the oil gallies. I am of the opinion that if the seals that are sealing the oil gallies begins to leak internally that oil pressure can be compromised, especially at idle. What needs to be done is that the engine must be pulled, disassembled at the halfs and a new seal installed. I would be shocked if this had anything to do with the oil pump, that is my opinion Now let me tell you my experience. I did a big job to my engine and transmission during the summer. I drained the coolant and oil and it sat for 4 weeks without being started. When I finally started it, I had low pressure at idle it was scary, I was thinking that I would have to junk it. I am now using Rotella 15W40. I think the seals shrank from being dry. My next oil change I am going to try a high mileage 10W30 and see what happens. Good Luck with this and report back how it goes, Mike Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
WarrenJ
Oil pressure sending unit failures are common. Oil pump failures are not. Good luck, Warren There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. - Ludwig von Mises

First as Warren noted, replace the oil pressure switch as I noted in my first reply at the top. I replaced mine and it made no difference, but it is important to replace it first as they do go bad and have been known to cause the symptom you are having Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
