Marcus815
When I was working on the FPR yesterday I broke this little rubber ring that wraps around the air intake (?) on the engine. It was pretty brittle so i'm not surprised it broke, but I would like to get a new one. What's it called? Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. Thanks
BodybyFisher
That is a gasket to seal air from gettting in between the throttle body and the air filter box. I broke mine once they do get brittle, the dealer may have a new one that is where I got my replacement. Marcus815
Are they generally the same size all across the board. What I mean is, do you think VIP, Autozone, Pepboys or NAPA would have it?

What I mean is, do you think VIP, Autozone, Pepboys or NAPA would have it? You may get lucky and find it at one of those places, I tend to buy most of my stuff at the dealer, no harm in trying, its a pretty simple gasket, Mike By the way, there is not really big harm in running without it for a while, just tighten down the nut on the air intake housing to seal the gap, dont use it if its broken it might get sucked in Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

blue_eldo
These intake gasket for the 4.9 MPI are the same size as an air filter gasket for any quadrajet carb! Very easy to source. Blue_Eldo

Blue_Eldo Interesting, I did not know that. The Rochester Quadrajet was my favorite carburator, just edging out the Carter AFB by a hair. blue_eldo
BBF, A look at my fleet will tell you why I stumbled upon this information. I also have a Quadrajet on my Cad 500 powered GMC Motorhome. They are sweet when they are working correctly. I am having the ISS issue on my 96 Deville, same as you. Will pulling the strut and half shaft and dropping the cradle as shown in the DYI section work on a 96 Deville? My 20 pin connector keeps filling with ATF no matter how many time I blow it out with electrical cleaner! Blue_Eldo

That sounded like a big job to me, not that the way I did it was easy. The procedure in the do it yourself was outstanding, lots of arrows, etc. Did you see my thread and that I tilted the carriage downward on the driverside to gain access to the side pan? I bought the transmission service manual which was helpful. This manual was just adequate, next time i would buy the rebuilding manual. If you want I can scan helpful pages for you out of it. One thing I would advise is to replace the thrust bearings for the drive gears and to pay attention to their orientation. When you are ready PM me and I will PM you my cell number and we can talk a bit. I have the bolts to drop the carriage in a controlled fashion, if you decide to do it that way, I can sent them to you. I had a 74 Eldorado, 68 and 66 Coupe deVille Convertibles, loved the 429 much better than the 472 and 500. I really enjoyed rebuilding carburators and looked to do it every chance I got. Accelerator pumps were known to go bad, and they were a dead give away when they did. That BOG on takeoff was freakin annoying. I still have my weight scale for weighing the floats, it will probably never get used again.... The first time I saw a heavy float because it absorbed fuel, I was amazed... Marcus815
I think I found what you're referring to there blue_eldo. Click the link below please... http://www.autozone.com/R,NONAPP22758/stor...oductDetail.htm It can't really be $18 for a piece of rubber though, can it? catmendo
if it is just a rubber O-ring ... try going to an ace hardware store ... my local one, has a good selection of them, that they say, are fuel resistant ... they are cheap, and i have used them on motorcycles, cars and golf course equipment... they worked every time ... the thickness of them is what was most important to me, because i have used them before, when they were just alittle shorter than i needed but since they are rubber, i saw no big deal with some streching ... i have saved some real cash that way without having to run all around town hunting for parts ...
