rbotti
I've owned my 94 Eldorado for a month and until tonight always thought it to be a Touring Coupe. From the outside it looks like a TC and on the inside it looks like a TC, it has the monographic grill and extra interior wood grain paneling of the TC, the only exception is that it does not say Touring Coupe of the doors, only Eldorado. I checked the dealer brochures and they look like my car except for the missing Touring Coupe on the doors. Tonight I checked the VIN and the eighth digit is a Y for 270 HP engine. I guess I'm learning something, just not sure what it is yet. It looks like I have a Sport coupe that looks like a Touring Coupe. Was this common? BodybyFisher
The ETC and maybe the ESC (both had markings on the trunk) had 300 HP engines and base model (no markings on the trunk) had 275 HP engines. The differences extended to the final drive ratio and the suspension also. You can get more details about the differences here, I like this comparison, although the suspension differences are not covered well at all: http://100megsfree4.com/cadillac/cad1990/1994/CAD94E.HTM Maybe someone who knows will provide the details but I think the suspension details were related to the struts, springs and stabilizer bar thickness were superior (beefier) on the ETC. Cadillac Jim
When I bought my 1997 ETC, the Touring package did include a tighter suspension, including the items that BodybyFisher listed. The Toriing package also included perforance tires, which were Goodyear Eagle RS-As on my ETC. I think that they used a different tire on the Z rated ETCs because I'm not sure that the RS-A was available as a Z rated tire. There are some other things, like ventilation pores in the seat leather, that are more luxury items that may be available on the ELC or base model as options, but the 300 hp engine, performance axle ratio, and suspension package were only available as part of the touring package. Z rated tires were only availabe with the Touring package. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. rbotti
Thanks for the info, as a result I’ve learn much more. The information to the VIN number was extrememly helpful. My car does look like a TC but has the SC engine and the VIN confirmed that for me. I enjoy my car regardless and only wish GM would bring back the Eldorado. Devin O'Conor
The Eldorado Sport Coupe had the 270hp engine, not the 295. I don't believe they said ESC on the back until later, maybe 96 or so. The older models did not and were difficult to tell from the ETC by looking. K.O.T.
