Astrak
Yep, just great. Well I just had the coolant changed yesterday, and had no problems but when coming home today and letting the car sit in the driveway for a few hours I go out to find a stream of coolant going down the driveway. I checked the coolant level and it seemed ok right at the line, could they have overfilled the coolant and some boiled out or what would cause this? Caddynut
I hope they just over filled the overflow tank and some came out when it was hot....otherwise....I couldn't tell ya. 2008 BMW 328xi 2007 Chrysler Aspen 2001 Cadillac Seville STS 2000 Ford Ranger XLT1998 Mitsubishi Spyder Convertible 1996 Saturn SC-11991 Ford F-1501979 Chevrolet Caprice1968 Ford LTD1965 VW Beetle "Herbie The Love Bug Replica** 1961 VW Beetle
JimD
Be sure the rubber gasket in the threaded cap on the reservoir is clean and not ripped. Maybe it was not tightened properly. Just keep an eye on the coolant level before you fire it up in the mornings. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
Astrak
It came from the passenger side of the vehicle, not saying it couldn't have leaked from the reservoir and dripped that direction.
JimD
Dripping from the RH side is limited to the hose or radiator end tanks. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
BodybyFisher
Recently someone commented on the reservoir cracking, but it sounds like they just over filled it Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
caddypete
If you just had the coolant changed, I would be pretty sure it was overfilled. As the coolant heats up it expands and has to go somewhere. If you don't see it again don't worry
Astrak
Ok definitely a leak somewhere, just filled a couple days ago and now I'm getting the check coolant level message in the DIC.
Ranger
Side tanks or surge tank are prime suspects.
Astrak
Surge tank looks good no apparent leaks, need to pressure test some time soon. Hoses look good, but I can't see the side tanks and it's hot outside so I'll just get some more coolant and wait for it to cool down a little. Astrak
What are the signs of the headbolts needing to be timeserted? The engine doesn't overheat at all it just heats up to the middle on the temp gauge.
Ranger
Overheating. Timeserting is done when the heads are pulled to replace the head gaskets.
caddypete
I would not be worrying about a head gasket problem, If you had the coolant changed, and thats when you noticed a problem, the problem is most likely linked to the coolant change. Did you change the coolant or have a shop do it? Recheck any connections that were loosened to drain the coolant. There is also the chance that there was a air bubble in the system that has worked it's way out that would drop coolant level. Your temp is staying in the proper range, so don't stress and worry about problems that have not arose drive it and check coolant level watch for coolant leaks when you park, you may find you never had a problem just a bug that had to be worked out. Astrak
Well hopefully, but the reason I took it to get the coolant changed was because the level was low so I would suspect a leak. So to get to the coolant drain plug do I have to remove the cowl thing under the car? Also now the coolant is back to a little below normal level, but just yesterday it was extrememly low, kinda wierd.
JimD
.... So to get to the coolant drain plug do I have to remove the cowl thing under the car? There is an access hole in LF corner of the plastic panel. A 3/4" deep socket fits on the drain valve. You can see the drain valve in post #1, the first picture. http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=13625 Or, you can simply pull the hose off the thermostat housing. It will drain faster if you loosen the threaded pressure cap on the reservoir. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !

This is new information, you had a low coolant level before the coolant was changed. The best thing you could do at this point is pressurize your cooling system to expose the leak. Some leaks will only show themselves under pressure, I have been threatening to buy this unit from sears: http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?...UseBVCookie=Yes Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
