P1376 CODE .... NEW WIRES

Recommended Posts

I BOUGHT A SET OF IGNITION WIRES ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO AND THEY WENT BAD ALREADY. AFTER REPLACING THE PLUGS (AGAIN) I NOTICED THAT WHILE HOLDING A FEW OF THE WIRES I COULD FEEL THE ELECTRICITY FLOWING THROUGH MY HANDS. MY GUESS IS THAT THE WIRES WERE (AS THEY SAY) LEAKING. I HAD A 5 YEAR WARRANTY, SO I RETURNED THEM.

UNFORTUNATELY I WAS RUSHING AND DID NOT TAKE ANY PICS. NOW I HAVE THE P1376 CODE (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING THE CAR - AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW WIRES).

I READ A THREAD ON HERE THAT SAID THAT IMPROPERLY ROUTED WIRES WOULD CAUSE THE COMPUTER TO THROW THAT CODE. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A "PROPER" WAY TO ROUTE THE WIRES OR HAVE ANY PICS? COULD SOMETHING ELSE CAUSE THAT CODE TO APPEAR?

THANKS AND YOUR HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED,

REGGIE

I am curious where you bought the wires and what brand. After learning my lesson over and over again about buying "Auto Zone Specials" or any type of brand like that....I ended up buying a more expensive after market brand like Accell or Taylors. Still a little cheaper than OEM and I never had a problem. As far as the code....a wire still might be jumping spark. open the hood in the dark and see if you have a light show while the car is running.

CAN'T THINK OF THE BRAND NAME OFF HAND. RECEIPT SAYS BWD WIRES (PEP BOYS - $60). I THINK I MAY HAVE A ROUTING ISSUE. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A "PROPER" WAY TO RUN THE WIRES?

If you removed one wire at a time as is recommended, they should be back in the same locations. Did you remove one at a time? Not sure but I hope this will help.

WIRES WERE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT INSTEAD OF REPURCHASING THE WIRES, REMOVING ONE AT A TIME AND RETURNING THEM, I TOOK THEN ALL OFF. I TRIED RUNNING THEM DIFFERENT WAYS, BUT IT STILL RUNS LIKE CRAP. NOW I'M GETTING A 1599 CODE.

THANKS FOR THE PIC. HAD THEM RUN LIKE THAT. DON'T KNOW IF THERE WAS A CERTAIN WAY TO RUN THE REAR ONES? COULD IT BE THA I HAVE THE WRONG LENGTHS? THEY SEEM PRETTY SELF EXPLANOTORY (AS TO WHICH ONES REACH WHERE). I KNOW THE 2 LONGEST ONES WERE 2&4 AND THE NEXT 6&8.

FIGURED OUT WHY I GOT THE 1599 .... I HAD ONE WIRE OFF THE COIL WHEN I STARTED IT TO CHECK THE COIL. STILL CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY IT'S RUNNING BADLY. PERHAPS I'LL PUT THE AC DELCO PLUGS BACK IN (APPARENTLY WASN'T THE PLUGS - ONLY 4 MOS. OLD). REPLACED THEM WITH AUTOLITES THE OTHER DAY 'CAUSE I ASSUMED IT WAS THE PLUGS.

Check to make sure you have the correct cylinder order, #1 is the passenger side rear and #2 is the passenger side front

If you frequent this site just a little you know that AC are preferred. Did yor gap the Autolites?

MY ENGINE BLOCK IS LABELED WITH THE CORRECT #S. I NOTICED ON EGREENE'S PIC HIS WIRES ARE OVER THE FIRST BLACK TUBING. I HAVE THEM UNDER. COULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I'M GONNA REINSTALL THE OLD AC DELCO PLUGS I HAD IN BEFORE. I'LL RE-ROUTE THE WIRES THEN.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! Reinstalled the AC Delco plugs, rerouted the wires and figured out that the hole where the bolt that secures the ground strap for the coil pack was stripped out. Forced a bigger screw in there, tightened it down, plugged all the plugs in, fired it up and vrooom!!!

Still have a lil' putter, but that's because I need to replace both mufflers (small hole in each one). No codes, No missing!!!!

Thanks for all your help,

Reggie

P.S. Sorry bout the caps - wasn't yelling at anyone - HABIT
