brenark
Hello My air conditioning system compressor is failing - very noisy and cabin temperatures are increasing. How difficult is it to replace the AC compressor? I work in the air conditioning industry so I am familar with handling refrigerants, system evacuation and refrigerant recharging. I am asking how difficult it is to remove the existing compressor and replace it with a new compressor. Does it require dropping the engine cradle? I hane the Helm's manual, but could not locate the air conditioning unit compressor remove and replace procedure. Any help would be greatly appreciated! For the 1997 model year Seville/Eldorado, you must remove the right front wheel (!!!), the serpentine belt, and a couple of spash shields to get the A/C compressor in and out. See 1997 shop manual page 1B-21. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. BodybyFisher
Here is my thread when I replaced my AC compressor in my 96 Deville. If you look at the top of page 2 you can see what the view looks like through the passenger wheel well inspection cover, you get a clear view of the compressor, Mike http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?sho...p;hl=compressor Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
brenark
Thanks for the quick replies. It doesn't look to be too difficult. When I get to it, I will let you know how things went and hopefully get some pictures for this forum. Thanks again, Mark

epricedright
If it turns out you need a hub bearing pulley assembly and clutch plate for your compressor, I'll have one available here shortly that is only 6 months old - like new with very low low miles.
