MAC
My a/c hub bearing (94 Eldorado) is about to give out and before it does I want to bypass the compressor to avoid damaging it. Does anyone know what size belt I can buy to temporarily avoid the compressor? I have the Northstar. The only thing that is obvious is that the belt will be quite a bit shorter. I searched the archives of the old forum but there was no information about what size belt can be used. I would appreciate any assistance. JIMDTS
Not sure as to the size you could always take a tape measure or string and route it through the pullys and get a length for the belt you need. Then go to an auto parts and match one up The auto parts should have them listed by length. Bentham
Hey - did this same thing on my '93 4.9 Take a piece of string and go through the maze, bypassing the AC It doesn't have to be EXACT - as the belt tensioner will pick up the slack, if there is any. Does anyone know what size belt I can buy to temporarily avoid the compressor? I have the Northstar. ACDelco 6K739 - 6 ribs, 73.9 inches in length - worked perfectly on a 1996 Concours last summer until the compressor could be fixed. ___________________________________________________
MAC
KevinW Thanks for the info. I used the number you gave me (ACDelco 6K739) to cross reference the same belt made by CarQuest (No. K060739). I put the belt on today and its works fine. Now, I can take my time replacing the hub bearing and I don't have to worry about the possibility of damaging my a/c compressor. Mike

BodybyFisher
For some reason I am NOT able to post a link to a thread that discusses the by pass belt. A good thread on the by pass is this one, search for this in the subject line "AC Compressor, Did bearing kill seal" Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

Hey Ken, Make a little trip down here to Texas in July or August..... 100 to 105 in the daytime (or more) and if you are really lucky... it "MAY" cool off to 80 at night. You will get it fixed REAL QUICK.
