coolnesss
My 98 ETC 78k miles, has a clunking when the suspension is compressed - as in when I bounce the back checking the shocks - sounds like its coming from just inside of the left rear wheelwell. I also hear it when going over driveways and speed bumps etc. Came on suddenly. Any ideas? THANKS in advance!
StinkinLincoln
Do you have the stock wheels on the car or are they aftermarket. Also have th struts ever been replaced on the car?
coolnesss
Yes, I have stock wheels. Need new struts. Can the need for the struts be causing the clunking? Having listened to it more, its more like a clanking. There's no codes showing at all.
BodybyFisher
Noises are very hard to diagnose in person let alone over the internet. Yes struts can cause a noise if they are shot or if their bushings are loose or deteriorated. Noise can also come from the muffler system and the rear stabilizer bar bushings, the rear knuckle and the rear hub bearings. You need to get the wheel up in the air and try to move it at 12 and 6 and 3 and 9 o'clock to see if you have play, inspect the strut for leaking and look over the bushings. THANKS Scotty - my shocks are shot, and i expect that is the problem. I posted in another thread asking about the Monroe electronic replacements - and shall update the board when I fix the problem.
