Oldgamer
Yes, this code reappears (I cleared all codes on my friend 2000 Deville). Code P0741 reappears again in couple days as current, and IRC U1016 in history again. Code IPC (I guess) U1088 in history, I didn't see this one before. The car runs fine, no other trouble. My friend told me like it eats more fuel, but I think there is no enough evidence of that. No problem with transmission, but code P0741 shows as current. I don't know if it is related, but he said it was a hole or something on a road and he hit a car kinda hard. It happened around two weeks before he got this code. The mechanic lift the car but didn't see anything wrong. 2000 Deville (or DTS?), ~35K miles Any suggestions?

calif phil
35k is a bit early for a po741 codes. GM has a Service bulliten on that code and any dealer should be happy to look it up for you. I am just living with it on my 2000 eldo with 125k. I do not want to spend the $2000 for a new convertor and valve body to fix it.
Logan
Service Engine Soon (SES) Light On, Diganostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0741, Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Excessive Slip, Transaxle Chuggle, Slip/Surge (Inspect/Replace Internal Transaxle Components) #04-07-30-034 - (Aug 6, 2004) Service Engine Soon (SES) Light On, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0741, Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Excessive Slip, Transaxle Chuggle, Slip/Surge (Inspect and/or Replace Various Internal Transaxle Components) 1998-2002 Cadillac Eldorado 1998-2004 Cadillac Seville 1999-2004 Cadillac DeVille 2000-2003 Oldsmobile Aurora with 4T80-E Auto Transaxle (RPO MH1) Condition Some customer may comment on the SES light on and a chuggle or surge. Diagnostics may show excessive TCC slip speed and DTC P0741 will be current code stored. Cause Seal damage may allow the TCC apply fluid to leak into the channel plate, causing excessive TCC slippage under certain conditions, eventually causing no TCC apply. TCC may have partial apply fluid pressure or no apply fluid pressure. If excessive slip speed is noted and condition/cause cannot be corrected by using DTC P0741 diagnostic chart, suspect worn seals from slippage of the drive sprocket bearing inner race on the drive sprocket. JasonA
Did the torque converter design or seal design change between 1997 and 1998 to "create" this problem? Oldgamer
My friend as he told me got in a hole on a road or something and hit a car under, so I think it's related to that. Didn't check the car under yet.
