codewize
Hi all. I recently picked up a 95 Fleetwood. While my mechanic was performing his initial once over he discovered that the ELC sensor had been disconnected and the fuse was removed for the compressor. He hooked it all up and the system seemed to be working. Once on the ground we realized the car is sitting way to high. As a test I disconnected the sensor link from the frame and simulated the car sitting higher than it really is, temporarily fastening it with a twisty tie. I had some people sit on the bumper to weight it down, the car went down a bit, then the compressor kicked on and pumped it back up. So it seems like no matter where the sensor is located it fills the shocks all the way. Any idea what I'm dealing with? If the sensor is a simple potentiometer I wouldn't expect that to be the problem. Any ideas? Cadillac Jim
I find these ELC codes in my OBD I database: S035 Electronic Level Control Compressor Short to B+S036 Electronic Level Control Compressor Short to Ground/OpenS037 Electronic Level Control Exhaust Valve Short to B+S038 Electronic Level Control Exhaust Valve Short to Ground/Open Scroll through the systems and look at the Suspension codes. codewize
How do I do that? As mentioned when I go into diag mode by holding the OFF and Temp UP button I see -00. Pressing the Outside Temp button scrolls that from -00 to -38. Each of those has a numeric value. I don't see OBD codes. Just for the record I'm familiar with doing this on other vehicles. Am I doing the wrong thing? Are you sure the ELC is monitored in the 95? Göran W
No, I don´t think that procedure is possible in Fleetwood. Maybe there is a socket for external reader?
Cadillac Jim
I would have to look to see how you read the OBD I (and 1.5) codes in a 1997 Fleetwood, but I do believe that you can switch code lists. I think the first list is manufacturer codes. You can always go to an Autozone or other parts/service house that offers free OBD code read-out. Most inexpensive code readers just read emissions-related codes and won't show you body, suspension or network codes. The best affordable ones are dongles that work with laptops and tablets.
