Bob,

You can add the factory CD/Cassette unit to your car. It is a "Plug-n-play" installation. Your current radio should have slider controls for the bass and treble so make sure the cassette/cd unit also has the same controls. The Fleetwood Brougham preset equilization head unit will not work in your car and vice-versa.

Best choice would be to take it to a car electronics place and see what the professionals say. See if it is possible, i do not see why it wouldn't be with an installation kit.

No installation kit or "Pro" is required - the factory CD/Cassette unit will plug right in. It's a 15 minute job.

Its just that every brand or company most likely has a different set up. If you were to put a deck say from like pioneer or alpine you would need a kit because its a whole different unit, and i don't see the difference between bose. You can do what u want, but it wouldn't hurt just to get a professionals opinion, even if they do not do it.

Been there, done this, the units are 100% interchangable, obviously you will not get the bose amps/speakers without rewiring the car, but the head unit is basically a giant remote control with a place for you to stick a cd or cassette, and the biggest difference between the bose unit and the standard issue cassette deck is that the bose one says "BOSE" in really cool gold writing....

it truly is a 15 min job, and all you need is the cassette cd combo unit, the real differences between the bose and non-bose system sits between the trunk and the speakers, for what you want to do (as I did) the head unit wiring is essentially the same.

the unit i'm talking about is not an aftermarket one from a major electronics company that would require an installation kit and wiring modifications,,, it is a factory unit structurally identical to what i have in the car now(the base model am-fm cassette)..it will fit directly into the dash, my only question is are there any extra wires to control the CD portion of the unit that i do not have in my dash .....

Eldo Bob,

The FACTORY CD/Cassette radio will plug right in to the existing wiring. There are no extra wires to worry about.

I think some of the confusion comes in because in 1996-on, the standard radio will NOT plug-in to the Bose wiring harness. You would need an adapter. Apparently, this is not the case with the 95 and previous radios -- the Bose and standard radios are interchangeable in those years.

Hi Guys,

I have a 96 Seville SLS with the Cassete unit and this is good info about being able to interchange the CD/Cassette Head unit. My question is does anybody have a good source for aftermarket head units? You know the dealers want a killing for them. Any links or company names/numbers appreciated. BTW - I'm in Dallas, Tx so if there are any local shops that would be great.

Thanks,

Eric.

Eric,

Bought mine from e-bay (seller was boobonic they seem to sell many of these units) I looked at bone yards and was finding that most of them wanted pulls for the same 3 bills I got the refurb from them for....no regrets so far. There are a couple of other places you can purchase for about the same ballpark price if you dont want to go the ebay route - check out

Thanks for the reply :) I have another question and excuse my ingorance on this one, but how do I take out the rear speakers to replace them? It does not look like I can remove them without taking out the rear deck panel, if so does it just pop off?

Thanks in advance.

Your factory speakers are surface mount. You have to take the back seat out, or move it out of the way a little and take off the rear deck carpeting. Then you can pry out the 6 x 9 speakers and you're on your way.
