Girl Caddy
My 1994 Sedan Seville started this rattling, knocking noise about 8 months ago when the oil pressure low light came on. I was told today that my engine is going out. My car runs great and iv'e had a lot of work done to it and it's quiet when i'm not excellerating and its not making that ticking noise. Can anyone tell me if it's time to put her down or if this issue is repairable?
Ranger
Hard to say from that description. Can you get a stethoscope and listen around for the noise? Is it coming from one of the cam covers?
cdgrinci
An alternative to a stethoscope would be a long (the longer the better, up to a point, I suppose) screwdriver held against your ear (the handle side against your ear) with the screwdriver (blade side) touching the areas you desire to isolate the noises from.
