95dev
I just changed my fuel filter on my 95 Deville, and now the Service Engine Light Comes On. The code reads P046. Does anyone think that this is related to changing the fuel filter, or is it just a coincidence ? Thanks

Ranger
Lift the fuel rail (with the injectors still connected). Turn the key on to energize the fuel pump and pressurize the fuel system. Now look for a leaky injector.

Thanks for the quick response, I'll have to check that out as soon as I get a warm day. Will that also cause a low idle? I had the car sitting for a month. BodybyFisher
Besides slow, is the idle rough? I suppose it could be a clogged injector instead of a leaky injector that is causing the imbalance, and a clogged injector would cause a slow idle Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
95dev
Yes its a little rough, that's why I originally changed the fuel filter. Is it easy to take out and clean the injectors, if I had to.

Is it easy to take out and clean the injectors, if I had to. Because the engine sat for a bit maybe your injectors became gumed up, try a bottle of Techron in a full tank of gas for the next few tanks of gas and see if that cleans the problem up Use good 93 fuel for a few tanks preferrably Chevron that has techron in it also You can not clean the injectors yourself, only by techron, they need professional cleaning I hope other members chime in here to give other ideas as to what can cause this imbalance. Members.....could a VACUUM leak at the injector o-ring cause this imbalance?, I know it will cause a misfire, but will it cause an FUEL imbalance? This is a 95 Deville, 4.9, I see OBD1 lean codes associated with O2 sensors, dont see lean codes associated with banks like on our Northstars Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

BodybyFisher
I dont think so, not on an OBD1 system See this thread http://www.justanswer.com/cadillac/2tfgj-code-p046-ses-light-comes-interstate.html and this, his problem was an O2 sensor but you dont have that code (P013) http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=12793&st=0&p=98606entry98606 See this http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-deville-1985-2005-including-1985/102761-95-deville-p046-code.html See this http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=21195 See this, injector cleaner seemed to work, but DONT use injector cleaner us TECHRON http://www.automotiveforums.com/t231626.html Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
Ranger
Mike, I may be wrong, but I take a "left to right bank fueling imbalance" on OBDI to be the same as # P0170 - Fuel Trim Bank 1 # P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1 # P0172 - Fuel Trim System Rich Bank 1 # P0173 - Fuel Trim Bank 2 # P0174 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2 # P0175 - Fuel Trim System Rich Bank 2 on OBDII. I assume that OBDII is a bit more refined and definitive than OBDI.
