dmcclure
I'm having an issue with white smoke coming from my exhaust. I first thought it might be a head gasket but my coolant level hasn't gone down at all for the last couple weeks that I've noticed it. I know theres been an odor coming from the exhaust for a while but I have yet to figure out what is causing it. I'm not sure if their related. Otherwise the car runs really good. Theres been no change in fuel economy. It's always been between 22 and 24 mpg city and highway driving. Is there any other problem that would cause white smoke? Thanks for your help. Ranger
Go back there and take a good healthy whiff of the "smoke". It will smell like oil, gas or coolant. Come back and tell us what you find (smell).
dmcclure
I went out to check fluids and sniff exhaust smoke this morning and I might've found the problem. I had the thought to check the vacuum modulator on the transmission and there was fluid in the vacuum line. When I smelled the exhaust it kinda had the smell of burning fluid. Not like oil, gas, or coolant. But some other fluid. Would this cause the white smoke?
Ranger
Absolutely. That fluid is getting sucked into the manifold and being burned. I wasn't aware that the 4T80E still used a vacuum control. Where was it located?
scott y
Ranger wouldn't a 92 Seville c/w 4.9L have the 4t60e trans?
dmcclure
Yeah the vacuum control is on the front of the trans, straight down from the electrical connector for the solenoids. Its a really large vacuum pod. Hard to miss.
