Two questions: - Withouth addressing the Northstar V-8 what appear to be common issues with the car? - Regarding the Northstar V-8, based on seeing oil pooling when I look from the top (underneath the hood) down, .there is an oil leak above the oil pan. The oil leak could be many many things, get it inspected. It could be a simple thing such as a loose oil cooler line or CAM covers to a more serious problem like the case half seal. But there are a host of problems that could cause oil leaks Loose oil filter Loose oil filter adapter cooler lines Your Cadillac has an on board diagnostic computer that runs tests and sets codes if something is not right. You do not need a code reader as most cars do.
