fisher
Has anybody had experience replacing their half shaft, or cv joint? I cannot seem to remove the shaft from the transaxle. Already have it off the hub or knuckle. 2001 deville.
Ranger
I have not done it, but I seem to recall something about using 2 screwdrivers and prying from 2 sides to get it to pop out.
BodybyFisher
Yes, that is correct, use a prybar to 'pop' the shaft out of the transaxle. Be sure to lube the shaft and seal with tranny fluid when you reinsert it Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

Already have it off the hub or knuckle. 2001 deville. Two large screwdrivers worked for me. Just be careful when doing that because I've read about some people cracking the trans casing that way. For me I had someone apply a bit of pressure with the screwdrivers while I pulled it out by the base.
BodybyFisher
IF it hangs it will apply more weight to the joint, was your axle hanging when you were applying pressure? I have never had trouble removing them over the years, they just pop. It's hard to believe that the case could be damaged doing this and not be damaged from potholes, torque, etc Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
