joeb
96 seville. i have a cracked vent trim piece. found a nice one at boneyard but cannot get dash pad off. i see there are 3 screws under defroster vent cover. thats on rear of dash pad. what holds front of dash pad on? i know the wood trim itself has screws that are hidden under dash pad but how do you lift up front of dash pad? i do not see any screws in vent outlets. actually found 2 nice sts cars at boneyard. the forklift bars went thru the windshield and totally destroyed the windshield and glass is all over dash. very tricky to work on vent. nice scrape in dash piece too. darn. looks like no cracks though. Do you have a FSM it is shown clearly. The screws for the front are behind the AC vents, you need to take the vents out. Use a 1 inch wide thin shim on the side of the vents to dislodge each side, take the vents out to get to the screws Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
joeb
no fsm. the screws for the front of the dash are behind the vents. so the vents are held in place by clips on each side? hmm, 13yr old plastic clips. gotta be careful to not damage them. the yard is full of CFC cars. very nice bodies. this yard always pulls motors before putting regular cars out. but all the CFC cars have the motors. painted green. No its impossible to break those clips, once you put a shim or thin steel rule in the side, it pushes the clip back, pull gently on the vent and it will pop, then pop the other side, once you get the first one out and inspect it, the others will be easy Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
joeb
went to junkyard. found 2 sevilles with good trim pieces. took off dash pad. easy. inspected trim piece and found both had the passenger side molded vent housing was broke or cracked. decided to not buy parts. i was at another yard this weekend and found several more cars and the trim piece was very cracked. might rethink whether to get piece at first yard. the plastic vent housing on the backside is not visible so maybe i can live with it. its just a cosmetic piece anyway.
