skyman
Yesterday out shopping a new message came on the computer screen. "Service Engine Soon!" "Battery voltage too high". So pushed the eng data untill I came to the battery voltage. I was at 16.1 then it started to to go up and down between 13.9 and 16.1. Then between 13.9 and 14.3. It continued on like that for about ten minutes as I was driving. Then, it just leveled out at 13.9-14. I checked the shop manuel and it pointed to either the battery or the generator. The generator was replaced last year with a rebuilt. The battery is several years old but always cranks nice and fast summer or winter. Has anyone here ever had this come up? Go to the top of this page, click HOW TO, then DTC CODES, and follow the directions for your year vehicle. Post your codes here. Have your battery load tested We are not big fans of rebuilt alternators unless they are rebuilt by ac delco. This sounds like a regulator problem, the regulator is in the alternator Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
skyman
It's throwing 4 codes. All in history. EO16,EO52,B412,B552. I did remove the battery last week to remove the coolant overflow canister so I could clean it so one of these codes is for that. I had a rebuild alternator put in 11/30/07. I'm guessing that the voltage regulator is incorporated in the alternator? The battery is a 4 or 6 year battery probably around 4yrs but still cranks fast.
