Property Management Group Sues Former Tenant for $50,000 over Comment about Moldy Apartment

(AP) A Chicago apartment management company is suing a former tenant over a Tweet.

Horizon Group Management LLC filed a lawsuit Tuesday claiming Amanda Bonnen of Chicago defamed the company in a May message on Twitter.

The microblogging service lets account holders give status updates in 140 characters or less.

Horizon attorney Jeff Michael says that on May 12, Bonnen messaged another accountholder: "Who said sleeping in a moldy apartment was bad for you? Horizon realty thinks it's OK."

The lawsuit, which seeks $50,000, claims that because Bonnen's Twitter account was public, her comment was published "throughout the world."

Telephone calls to Bonnen and her attorneys were not immediately returned. Her Twitter account has been deactivated

If she didn't take photographs of the damage then I'd say she might be facing some trouble in court. If you claim there's mold in a house or apartment, get ready to PROVE IT. A picture is worth 1,000 words and 1,000 words is worth a picture. (also, lab test results are good evidence too)

If she can prove there was mold in the apartment, then she can even counter-sue for her damages.

Most modern construction will have mold, which is why insurance companies no longer insure for mold damage.

If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

Where did the $50,000 figure come from. I see no allegation of damages to justify it. Also, Bonnen is entitled to her opinion. I say the case is thrown out of court.
