Good evening!

Well I just had my coolant pump replaced...along with a bunch of gaskets...seals...etc....

Car is running fantastic....

After I start the car....within 2 min....the CHECK COOLANT LEVEL is displayed...

The coolant level in the car is fine...and I also went to the wreckers today and tried a different sensor...

same issue....

Is there anything I can do to fix this or shut this sensor off?

Thank you

Explain what you did, the coolant sensor is part of the coolant TANK, did you replace the TANK? When the coolant level sensor goes bad it is an integral part of the TANK and it must be replaced as an assembly

Do you mean that you replaced the coolant reservoir?

The coolant level "sensor" is not a replaceable item.

Is there anything I can do to fix this or shut this sensor off?

Yes.

But I sure do not want the liability of telling you how to do that without additional information.

I took out the sensor....(pulled it out) and took the other one out that I got at the wreckers....I did have to purchase the whole coolant tank....

Did I break both sensors?

When I did this....I left the coolant tank in my car.....just pulled out the sensor....and put the other sensor in that I took out from the tank that I got at the wreckers....

That would be my guess since they are not serviceable. I didn't even know you could get them out.

Jim.....if you could explain the way for me to bypass this I would really appreciate it....

If you follow through with this simple procedure, you acknowledge that you are willing to disable the early warning Coolant Level Warning system that Cadillac designed for your vehicle. I urge you to closely monitor the (cold) level of coolant in your reservoir.

So much for the fine print.

At the chassis side of the wire harness connector that attaches to the bottom of the reservoir, simply jumper the two pins together.

Jim....I did this today........and after about 5 min...the CHECK COOLANT LEVEL display came on....

Took it out and tried it again.....same thing.....

Put old one back in......got mssg also about 5 min after running......

Is there something I am missing?

Thanx Jim....

Thank you everyone for the help...

I merged the above post with your original thread to keep it all together so it makes sense, this last post was an orphan

Put what old one back in?

I was describing bypassing the fluid level sensor. I don't understand what you are taking out and putting back in.

I would have just put the scrap coolant tank in rather than ripping out the coolant level sensor, and potentially causing leaks and damaging the sensor

THere is a wiring harness going to the bottom of the coolant tank, take the wire off and jump the connect (wire side), is that what you did?

No I don't. And I don't believe a wiring diagram is necessary to bypass a simple switch logic produced warning message.

This is turning into an interplanetary navigation problem.

I agree Jim, but if his mechanic jumped the connection and it still showed low coolant that would mean to me that something else is wrong like a shorted harness, etc That is why I was looking for a schematic

Here is what I find in my '04 Deville Service Manual (and before you gag on the wide difference in model/years I will say that there are more similarities than differences).

The coolant level sensor plug pin A goes to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

The coolant level sensor plug pin B goes to a chassis ground splice pack (G201).

When the coolant level is at an acceptable level, the sensor switch connects pin A to pin B. When the coolant level drops below (some point) the sensor switch opens the circuit between A and B and the IPC sees the absence of a ground and flags the LOW COOLANT LEVEL message.

If there is chassis wirng harness damage, it would have to be an intermittent open circuit (somewhere). Otherwise it is possible and extemely doubtful that the IPC is misbehaving.

Thanks Jim, that is what I was looking for, my feeling is that his wire has been damaged by acid from the battery and its an open circuit, he needs to check the wiring.

The battery is no where near that section of wiring.

Oh on my car the battery is next to the coolant tank and my wires were corroded and exposed and I needed to tape them up. When I first got my car I had a leaky battery
