Bruce Nunnally
Cadillac won the award for the most significant concept vehicle for the second year in a row as its Converj extended-range electric car took the top honor at the 2009 North American Vehicle of the Year ceremony Tuesday. The Converj, which uses the same powertrain layout as the Chevrolet Volt that goes into production next year, also won the Best Specialty Concept award as the vehicle with the best use of significant and advanced new technology. GM created the Converj to show environmentally friendly electric vehicles can also provide the style and features luxury buyers want, said Dave Rand, General Motors’ executive director of advanced global design. “Converj has been a very timely test-well for us in gauging the public’s reaction and also serves as a compass for our designers working on the future direction for Cadillac,” he said.
