MAC
I want to replace the right axle but I'm not sure if I should use a slide hammer to hook the axle. Does anyone know if this Slide Hammer Puller Set will work?
Carvone
I want to replace the right axle but I'm not sure if I should use a slide hammer to hook the axle. Does anyone know if this Slide Hammer Puller Set will work? Don't buy one, go to autozone and borrow one for free. The one at AZ is the same slide hammer but there is another attachment you need to rent that screws onto it, it has two prongs that go around the shaft. I borrowed everything from AZ for free and it worked very nice, made the job a whole lot easier.
BodybyFisher
If you are simply thinking of pulling the axle out of the transaxle, all you need to use is a prybar, it will pop right out Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
MrEldo97
I replaced one on my Eldo and just popped the axle out with a large screwdriver - real easy. The tough part was getting the axle out of the hub bearing! Jeeziz, that Massachusetts road salt had corroded the exle to the bearing like they were welded together. Bearing puller didn't work, I actually had to remove the spindle carrier from the car, support the hub and pound the axle out with a BFH, then pound the hub bearing out with the same BFH. MAC
Thanks for the input. The easy part for me is getting the axle out of the hub. It just didn't want to come out of the transaxle. I was probably doing it wrong? I remember tapping it but it didn't seem to help. There is nothing to stick a prybar under at the transaxle to actually pry it out. I did try to pry it out but the axle is rounded somewhat so I couldn't get good leverage.

I changed my both axle seals, I dont think our trannys are too different, use a big screwdriver are prybar, it will pop out Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
