WiFi Table Radio

Recommended Posts

Four and a half years ago I moved from "near" NYMA to "distant" NYMA. That pretty much marked the end of decent radio reception for me. For some time I've toyed with the idea of an "internet" table radio.

Well the first of this month was my birthday and I treated myself to a top-of-the-line WiFi table radio. I shoulda done this much sooner. WOW! 12,000+ crystal clear broadcasts from around the world! I can't recommend this too highly:

Yeah, a bit pricey, but there are less expensive models available.

Also, it's a bit like being back in the vacuum tube days; after ignition it takes up to 30 seconds to connect to my wireless network (WEP, I think, slows its connection down). A small price to pay considering the benefits.

Regards,

Warren

There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. - Ludwig von Mises

Thanks Warren, as you know I have poor FM reception also and have fooled around with FM antennas, bought 1/2 wave 54" vertical FM antenna and was unimpressed, TERK amplified antennas (which amplified hiss and noise, tin foil, rabbit ears, signal boosters, called optonline to see if there was an FM signal embedded in their cable, and recently I have been looking into HD FM. I have kind of solved the problem via streaming FM via the internet, but not all stations stream. As you might know CD101.9 recently shut down their FM broadcast and went HD FM. Thanks for this option, I will check it out, Mike

Mike, if you have the time and inclination to build an antenna for 98 Mhz I'll wager you can improve your FM reception. A couple of hours and some material you probably have on hand.

An outdoor location would be preferred.

Hmm, I will look into this, thanks

OK, but also look here because I'm pretty sure I can describe in words how to build such an antenna at no or minimum cost. If you are looking other places, try terms like 'full wave loop' and 'quad'.

In the near future I will be able to scan and load diagrams (with dimensions) for a possible home brew solution to your lack of FM band performance situation.
