Check Coolant Level Message

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Last week my i got a message saying my Check Coolant Level. After checking, my level was full, so i suspect the sensor in the tank went bad. I also notice that since i got that message my radiator fans run continiously. Could this be because of the bad sensor? If i disconnect the battery fo a few minutes do you think will reset???

Its probably a bad sensor in the black coolant tank. The sensor is not replaceable you need to replace the tank. Check the wiring connector first at the bottom.

Body by Fisher,

Do you know if that would cause the fans to run constantly?

Yes

I just check my manual, section 8A-31 Cooling Fan Diagnosis (electrical), High Fan Conditions, and it states this:

The PCM turns on the cooling fans at high speed if a LOW COOLANT LEVEL is detected and engine coolant exceeds 85 degrees C. The PCM switches to LOW SPEED operation once the engine coolant temperature drops below 80 degrees C.

85 degrees C = 185 degrees F

80 degrees C = 176 degrees F

Hope this helps

I love the Northstar system, its so logical!

great thanks for the info. Do you think taking off the bat. terminals will reset the pcm?

Not likely, check the connector at the bottom of the tank. If you find the tank too expensive take a run by your local scrap yard you might get lucky.

However the only reason I would hesitate using a scrap yard tank is that it will probably be dry and could have dried out, they have been known to crack.

Good Luck
