1998 Seville A/C Chirps

My 1998 STS did that also. It is caused when the compressor clutch engages, the belt slips around the compressor slightly before the compressor is spinning as fast as the belt. While your belt may be fine, a new one would probebly stop the chirping. I would leave it though as it isn't a problem. The chirp is just kind of an annoyance.

There is a 'chirp' under the hood whenever the A/C compressor cycles...

Has anyone else experienced this?

How do I fix it???

Do I need a new belt?

Consider the harmless chirp to be an audible confirmation that your compressor is being cycled as designed. Spray a shot of belt dressing on the belt and see if that makes any difference.

If your serp. belt has close to 100K miles, you might (should) consider replacing it for reasons other than the A/C chirp.

My 98 STS made a noise as well when the A/C compressor was on. It turns out one of the condenser lines was vibrating and hitting a nearby part. I sort of tied it together to keep if from vibrating and now no noise!
