steering feel?

i moved a set of nice, evenly worn tires from another car onto my STS. i notice that the steering feel seems odd during long sweeping turns, like on a cloverleaf. the wheel seems twitchy like the steering boost is flucuating. i do have a whine from the pump when i turn the wheel. it is quiet when i am not turning. the car seems to drive fine on straight roads but i do not like how it feels when i turn the wheel. my wife is leasing a new sonata and that feels solid as a rock on turns. nice and smooth. maybe it is a tire issue since all the tires were installed with no regard to their previous location. what causes pump whine? level is fine and no bubbles.

Any codes?

Air in the system can cause a whine

i had a few after the battey died when i stored it this winter. the motor was out last summer for the headgaskets so the pump was empty for a few months. i recall it whining before i did the headgaskets. i have only put on 500 miles since august but the whine seems the same now as last fall.

Try bleeding the system there is a specific procedure. Check to make sure that the return line fittings and clamps are tight. If you are sucking air that would be a source.
