The engineers specifically mentioned that with the design of this engine they had the M5 engine output in mind as a benchmark. The LS9 version is hand-built and will put out over 600 hp in the new ZR1 Corvette. The LSA version for the CTS-V and other GM performance vehicles will put out 550 hp. It has less expensive internals, and a slightly different supercharger on the same base engine design.
