Gyounker
I have a 98 Eldorado without the touring package. I have just replaced the alternator because the "check charging system" info was on. Then I replaced the battery because the info system said "battery not charging" and later my battery charger would occaisionally drop to zero. I thought the battery had a short in one of the cells. Now, 2 days later and with no info in the dash it suddenly would not start---just the usual selenoid click. I jump started the car and drove it home. It was now showing a charge of 12.2 volts while driving. I now have the battery charger on again but I am trying to determine what is happening. I can only think their must be a short somewhere. Please--any ideas or suggestions would be a help. Thanks in advance !!!
Ranger
Check for clean, tight, corrosion free connections. Check all the way back to the starter if everything else looks OK.
Gyounker
I agree-----tomorrow I am going to again clean the connections and maybe replace the bolts. It seems to act like a poor connection. I did notice the AC getting weak today. It must have been the battery weakening.
Logan
Some reman alts will not trigger charging correctly. There have been some posts in the past. Think a Delco reman will fix the problem. adastra100
Does anyone know how to tell if the starter is bad, or a timing belt is bad? When I try to start it, (1997 Catera), there is just a rattling noise, it doesn't seem to even try to turn over.. Please help!! Thanks
