Cold knock curing?

My low mileage 93 Eldorado TC suddenly started to knock hard when I started it up.

The sound disappear after a minute or so and is most obvious at reverse or drive.

First I thought it was some mechanical but most mechanical faults are more pronounced

when hot and then I came to think of the COLD KNOCK problem.

I have updated my Eldo with the latest PROM which took care of most of the earlier

chuggle problem that it had. It does not use any oil at all ( a quart between computer suggested oil changes) so the rings seem to flex OK. I will try some extra WOTs now and then and hope that it cures the problem or is there anything special that I can do like using the liquid cleaning procedures and do they work? I have read through some of the posts but I would be glad to hear some more experiences about this. I hope not to need to do the timeserting yet although I will buy me all the timeserting parts and tools and gaskets to do that job later on.

Is is starting to get cold outside there?

In my ex wifes chinese car it would knock for awhile come winter time

I put 5/30 oil in there and it stopped the problem I guess 5/30 stays thinner when it's cold so the oil was able to be pressurized and get through the motor quicker

Also I think you might have carbon knock I've seen them talk about it on here.. I think going out and beating on the motor a little bit will fix it

I will take it out today and follow the Scotty version : 2nd to 70 and down to 35 and repeat it 5 times. (I will also fill it with fresh premium gas as the gas in it is 4 months old - I used my

souped-up 88 Mustang convertible during the summer)

/Thanks, Jan L.

Repeat that 10 times if I said 5 times I was being conservative (5 times is good for continued maintenance weekly or monthly). This procedure will also help any oil consumption you are having. Given that you have low mileage on your 93, I have no doubt that you are experiencing the cold engine knock. Get the engine nice an warmed up before you do the procedure and make sure your oil is not low.

Next time you are going to take a long trip use some Techron and run it out the same day. Mike (Scotty/BBF)

I did the first 5 runs today and when I started it up after 3-4 hours I could not hear any

knock so I will I will do the other 5 later on a sunny day. The speeding ticket amount have doubled or maybe tripled here in Sweden just recently so we have to be careful now but

I will try to do more WOTs in the future anyhow.

What is Techron - I do not know of that brand here -if it is a GM brand I will visit them and

get the instructions or I can find some other suitable cleaner.

Thanks, Jan Linderholm.

This is good stuff. However, as we do not like gas additives because of the potential of damaging the fuel pump and injectors we don't allow it to STAY in the tank, drive it out the same day! They make a large and a small bottle use the SMALL bottle.. When you put this in, do a few WOT procedures as described above..
