If your calipers have rubber bushings in them try replacing them, if the bushings are worn the caliper can oscillate and cause a vibration.

After I replaced the original rotors, which were warped, the vibration went away for a while then returned. I need to look at the caliper to see if it's hanging up. While I'm at it I will look at the bushing also. Do the bushings come in a kit of some sort?

I don't know what car you have but, I will tell you this, my 96 Deville has two bushings in each caliper that the sliders ride in. I resurfaced my rotors and got the pulsing vibration back again, THEN I replaced the bushings (GM has a CALIPER bushing kit for the front and back calipers) and the vibration never came back. Bad bushings causes the caliper to oscillate back and forth and you can see the pads look worn funny sort of rounded.... check that out before you replace your rotors, just have the rotors lightly cleaned up... See the BLACK bushings in front of the sliders in this scan. Mike

I think these bushings are OVERLOOKED by shops and by DIYers.... From now on I will replace them when I do the pads...

I have a 97 STS. I will look in the FSM to see if I have those bushings.

Thanks for the info.

My 96 STS has bushings similar to those, so I would imagine that your 97 would have them as well.

I too have had problems with the rotors warping, and after trying several different aftermarket brands, I ended up putting AC-Delco rotors back on the car. They are holding up better than any of the others that I tried, but I'm still not very impressed.

Good Luck

The more that I think about this, the more I am confident that your rear problem is caused by the bushings or by air in the line. If the rear is not doing their job, the front typically 'warps' from too much heat. That your rear is shuttering to me is related not to warping of the rotor but the caliper. If you look at your pads you should see them worn on an angle, that is how mine were worn. So the front of the pad tends to dig in when the bushings allow too much movement and the rotor vibrates and the pads dig in. Let us know how this works out.
