How do you clear the codes? Thanks

I can't help you on a '97. One of your options after you retrieve the DTC codes "should be" something like "CLEAR ALL CODES?"; You answer 'yes'.

OK...

I cleared all codes and the "Service Engine Soon" light doesn't illuminate anymore. That's good. But my question now is, how long will it take to recognize a problem? I drove my car around the block, if one of the previous DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes) are still existing, how long will it take to illuminate the "Service Engine Soon" light again?

i wonder if the light ever trips as a fluke?

mine did a few months ago, so I cleared my codes to see what would come back up, & it's never come back

No way to predict how long.

If there is a genuine repeatable problem with the operation of any system (or the sensors), the 'error' condition will occur again and that DTC will be set. If the DTC is concerned with emmisions, the SES lamp will be ON.

I have observed the entire diagnostic system 'can be' somewhat susceptible to false triggers due to the timing issue of all the black boxes and their associated sensors talking to each other, in particular at start-up.

A drive around the block with a cold engine might be inconclusive as the engine might not reach closed-loop temperature. Approach this like eating an elephant.

Didn't you have an issue with the engine not running correctly? The only code that was current was the P0146. I would bet that if you run long enough to get into closed loop that code will set again ;)

I've had my car for 1 1/2, and I've never know abou the DTC codes until I joined this forum, I got to check them.

If the history codes have cleared, I wouldn't worry too much about them unless they come back. If they do come back, you may want to investigate.

The CURRENT codes concern me some.

PCM P0146 Current - O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 3)

Could indicate a bad O2 sensor or perhaps unplugged or something. I think you should probably check this out. Continued driving with a malfunctioning O2 sensor might not be the best thing for your car. It could result in catalytic converter damage. I'm not an expert on this. perhaps some others on here have an idea.

RSS C1712 History - Left Front Damper Actuator Open Circuit

RSS C1738 Current - Exhaust Solenoid Valve Short to GND

RSS C1760 History - Left Front Position Sensor Input Fault

RSS C1783 Current - ICCS2 DL Left Output Short Circuit to GND

RSS C1785 Current - ICCS2 DL Right Output Short Circuit to GND

These are from the road sensing suspension. Something is going on there. Does everything seem ok there there? At the minimum, I'd check that the sensors are intact and that all the cables are securely connected. Again, I'm not an expert on this. Perhaps someone else can help.

PCM P0603 History - Internal Control Module Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Error

PCM P1604 History - Loss of IPC Serial Data

IPC U1255 History - Class 2 Communication Malfunction/Serial Data Line Malfunction

From what I have seen, these ones are pretty common and are usually nothing to worry about.
