clinking/clunking

I had a clunking noise coming from the rear end of the car, mostly when I went over sharp bumps and the like. It wasn't too annoying so I left it for about a year. Now that it's a little warmer outside I had the window open a bit today and was going over some rough snow bumps and now there isn't a clunk but more of a clinking noise like there's something quite loose.

What do you think? Bushings?

Thanks in advance for the advice. I would like to have some ammo when I go to the dealer.

That's what mine was. Bushing were very worn out.... Sway bar was banging around. For that if you have any type of mechanical skills you can change them yourself. Do you have a 13mm (I believe) wrench? If you lift up the car and take off the rear wheel you can see the bushing.

What would be an average cost and are these bushings available aftermarket?

If it's just a matter of unscrewing a nut and replacing the bushing, then heck I'll do it myself.

Yes, I have replaced the control arm bushings on a number of cars. The key here is finding them........ From my understanding the dealer doesn't sell the control arm bushings.

This depends on what bushings you are talking about. The stabilizer or sway bar bushings are easy to change... The control arm bushings are not quite as easy. If you have to replace the control arm bushings you might want to take the car to mechanic. You have to remove the control arm to change the bushing, which means you have to unhook the shock/strut, in the rear of mine there is a spring. To remove the spring you need a spring compressor then you need to get the control arm loose from the spindle... not easy if you don't have the tools.

I believe the cost of the stab/sway bar bushings from the dealer were only about 7-8 bucks.
