JIMDTS
I'm going to change the oil in a day or so I would like to open the filter and take a peek at the element Any easy ways to cut one open I'm thinking tin snips and a sharp bladed screw driver Any tips on an easy way to get at the element?? Thanks Jim
jackc
I usually lay 'em in the vice and use a hacksaw just below the seal lip, saw it open enough to get the tin snips in, then cut the "head" the rest of the way off. And put some rags under it to catch the mess.........
Ranger
I think Guru recently mentioned using a pipe cutter (if you have access to one). I would avoid a hack saw as you'll introduce metal shavings and contaminate the evidence, so to speak.
JIMDTS
Jackc & Ranger Thanks for the info. I never theought about a tubing or pipe cutter I know I don't have one large enough in diameter to go around the oil filter. But I have a friend who owns a plumming company and he drives a plummers truck loaded with plummers tools & he happens to frequent on of my favorite watering holes after work I'll just go out to his truck and cut the old filter open This will also Give me an excuse to stop in and have few beers..
