jtthirdeye
hey guys, 98 STS, 60,000 miles. Engine jumps right up to operating temp, and stayed there for a good time before it started overheating. This was in casual in town driving. Got out on a state highway and the temp dropped back down. Gave it some real hell and it came all the way up and the computer put it in safemode. Got home and it was boiling out of the supply tank. Checked the purge hose, the hollow bolt, and replaced the thermostat (even though the old one looked and worked fine.) Am I looking at a water pump issue here? Ranger
Is the water pump belt tensioner applying enough tension so that the belt is not slipping?
Marika
Do you have enough anti-freeze in the radiator and does the surge tank show "full" when the engine is hot? If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.
poopdeville
How old is the anti-freeze? Extreme conditions lower the life expectancy of such things. You don't say where you are but if it's in an area of extreme cold for a large period of the year, the life of it resisting freezing is shortened... and visa versa. It could be much more sophisticated a problem than I suggest but on the other hand it may be a simple one too. Mike P
