2002 Cadillac escalade a couple days ago while drivin heard loud bang then car only went very slowly even with giving gas. Got home and realized when I put it in reverse, the banging noise continued but no movement but if I put it in drive the noise go away and I would still move forward. Now 2 days later I went to the store and it just stopped driving but engine was still on. I pulled over and put it in park and now the noise is there and not in reverse. So car will start with immediate cloud grinding like noise and when switching gears I hear a spinning like noise but it wont moveforward or back. Help.

It sounds like you have a mechanical failure of some sort in your transmission like a forward sprag clutch failure.  I would stop driving it immediately.  Find a good transmission rebuilder, avoid the national chains.  Check their Yelp reviews for nightmare problems.

The only other thing I can think about is a driveshaft but I think once a CV joint or universal failed you would be dead in the water.

It is really hard to say what it is.  Only a teardown would disclose the problem.  I had a forward sprag fail it sounded similar to what you experienced but it could be anything

Clearly you have a transmission problem as an earlier subscriber suggested find a good transmission rebuilt person stay away from national franchises as well as giving some thought to the fact that you have a vehicle that is almost 20 years old you might just want to replace it
