Scotty
I am looking to purchase a spring compressor for my struts. Many of the spring compressors specifically exclude GM "A", "C", "J", "X" bodies, does anyone know what cars they are referring to? Thanks, Mike Early on sailors navigated by the stars at night and the North star became the symbol for finding ones way home. JasonA
Yes, and TECHNICALLY, the G-body and G-specials didn't appear until 1982, when the FWD A-body was introduced. The RWD Cutlass (et. al.) platform (which was called the A-body) was going to be discontinued in the 1981-1982 timeframe, and replaced for good with the FWD Ciera (et. al.) cars, and the A-body designation was going to go with it. The RWD cars kept selling like hotcakes, even after the introduction of the FWD cars, and I think it was an 11th hour decision to keep the RWD line in production...and they needed another letter to designate the continuing frame. Since the 1978-1988 frames are really the same, with minor sheetmetal changes for 1981, they're all generally referred to as the "78-88 G-body", although they're really A-bodies until 1982. In addition, the 98+ Seville is on a G-body platform (the FWD Aurora), although I understand it's heavily modified, and perhaps Cadillac kept calling it the K-body despite the heavy under-body change. jackc
This was all a heck of alot easier back in 79 when I worked at the Buick Dealer. We had A - Regal, B - Lesabre, C - Electra, E - Riviera, and X - Skylark. Oh yeah, and Opel. Oh well.
