okiemom
My check engine light came on this morning and I had the code checked at an auto parts store on my way to work. They said the code was p0496 regarding Evap System Flow During Non Purge. I've been reading about this online, but nothing is telling me how serious this is. Can I drive the car until I can get it to the dealer next week? Or am I ok for a few days. Thanks.
Cadillac Jim
P0496 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Flow During Non-Purge You apparently have a leak in one of the EVAP hoses. Usually if something is urgent, you will get a DIC message to that effect. This sounds like it needs attention soon, but unless you are traveling over the long weekend, you should be OK tanking it in after Labor Day. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. MAC
If the P0496 code is intermittent, it could be caused by a damaged or sticking EVAP canister purge solenoid valve. Here is a YouTube video that shows how to replace the purge valve. The car is listed as a 2006 STS. Looks like a V6.
