Bruce Nunnally
General Motors Co. is hiring 200 people at its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant ahead of starting production of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu later this summer, a person familiar with the plant's plans said Thursday. The workers have already been selected for the jobs and were referred by other people who work for the Detroit automaker, the person said. No other hiring at the plant now is planned, the person said. Detroit-Hamtramck employs about 1,200 hourly workers, plus 150 salaried workers. It builds the extended-range plug-in Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera. It also will build the all-new 2014 Chevy Impala. The Malibu is also built at GM's Kansas City, Kan., assembly plant.
