Lic Plate lights not working! 2001 Deville

Recommended Posts

Hello, Been a bit since I was last here but my Bulbs are not working to the Lic Plates on a 2001 Deville in the rear nor does my 3rd brake light - I put in new Bulbs for both Lic plate holders but still there not working! I checked the fuse under the rear seat I think it was number 13 and a 10A fuse, Looks good but still put a new fuse in and no help,,,Any idea's? I got pulled over by the cops because the lights are out there but everything else works fine! Did I look at the wrong Fuse maybe? 13 sure looks to be the one.

I also have the Traction control light on every time I turn on my headlights - is this related somehow?

The bulb I used to replace was a 195 that should be the correct bulb/holder as it shows it is and looks identical to the old one.

Test the license plate socket with a volt meter and see if you have power to the socket

Your traction control comes on when you turn on your headlights....hmmm

First make sure that your traction control is not turned off, there is a button in the center console or the glove compartment, but I dont think that is your problem

check to see if you have any trouble codes set, see the bottom of this posting, click the link on how to check DTC codes and follow the directions for your year and post your codes here, so we have an idea as to what is going on

is there a fast way to add a jumper in the mean time to light up the plate?

You are asking the wrong person, I usually fix the problem, I am not one to rewire a car to make it work.

I suppose if you are electrically inclined anything is possible, but I would rather fix the problem, trace it back with a volt meter and a schematic

Its only the license plate, I guess you could disconnect it and run a jumper to one of the tail lights. If you need a schematic let us know.
