van_wilder
i recently bought a 98 deville, and 2 days after i bought it the HVAC system started acting up. i can have the heat set at 90 but it will blow cold on the driver side only. the passenger side blows as it should. when i had the hood popped i noticed the condinsation on the ac lines and the compressor turning on. any thoughts on what this may be? i am new to these cars but have done some searching and what i have seen similar is the driver air mix actuator has gone bad, but would this make the a/c run all the time? TIA Matt
Ranger
It could be an air mix door actuator or a partially clogged heater core. Try flushing the core before replacing parts unless you have a DTC for an actuator. A/C runs all the time in the defrost mode and in auto when the ambient temps are above about 35F. Econ should disable the compressor.
CoupeDTS
Ive been told the a/c runs when the heat is on to dry out the air coming into the car? Otherwise your car would fog up with just heat on cold windows. I believe thats why some cars have a/c buttons so you can run heat and shut off the a/c at the same time, to save on gas mileage a little I guess. Ive used it this way anyway. It does fog up without the a/c on. * 1966 Deville Convertible * 2007 Escalade ESV Black on Black * 1996 Fleetwood Brougham Black on Black V4P -Gone* 1983 Coupe Deville Street/Show Lowrider -Gone* 1970 Calais 4dr Hardtop GONE* 2000 Deville DTS - Silver with Black Leather and SE grille GONE* 1999 Seville STS - Pearl Red GONE
Ranger
Ive been told the a/c runs when the heat is on to dry out the air coming into the car? Correct, but I believe is gets disabled below about 35 degrees. Your ECON button is the A/C bypass switch.
