Limp Mode Question

Recommended Posts

A co-worker of mine asked me if it was possible to "select" the limp mode when driving, for fuel conservation while driving on the highway or freeway. I told him i was 93% sure that you cannot select it, rather certain conditions cause the limp home feature. Has anyone heard of this, or is it possible?

Playtime98,

I don't think limp mode is not such a good idea as it limits you to 2nd gear...on the highway? A buggy would move about the same speed, and cost less gas...although more oats! :D

The limp-home feature will not save fuel....it is designed to protect the engine from damage in the event that the coolant is lost. You can only drive about 50 miles in the limp-home mode anyway and the engine oil MUST be changed afterword as the oil life is rapidly depleted.

The only way it is selectable is if the coolant temperature get's hot enough to activate it.
