2001 sts

hi guys,i replaced the hub/bearing assembly today on my sts..now it seems to be making a strange grinding type sound,that i think is coming from the axle,at the end where it goes into the motor..any ideas?bad axle maybe?

If you let the axle hang or over extend it, you can dislodge the inner CV joint, you need to have a look at it.

This warning is in the manual

Do not overextend the wheel drive shaft. Allowing the inboard joint to overextend can cause separation of the internal components and lead to joint failure

Well letting it hang is not as serious but pulling it outward or overextending it is, but it should always be supported when free. You need to determine if you dislodged one of the three tripod bearings (#4 in this diagram). You may see or feel the detached bearing bulging in the seal
