Cadillac SRX Turbo AWD Premium

This thing is fun, and more than just another entry in the "it looks like an SUV but it's really a sport sedan" sweepstakes. Consider the equipment, starting with a choice of a direct injected 3.0-liter V6 or an only slightly smaller 2.8-liter V6, but with a turbocharger. Underneath is an all-independent sport suspension. That's right, a sport suspension on a Cadillac sedan.

But let's look at the engines for a moment. These V6 engines are the smallest Cadillac offers in the North American market, according to the press folks, but Cadillac and General Motors as a whole have discovered the joys of both direct fuel injection and six-speed automatic transmissions. The direct-injection 3.0-liter V6 pumps out 265 horsepower and carries an EPA highway rating of 25 miles per gallon when equipped with front-wheel drive.

Our test car was equipped with all-wheel drive and the 300 hp turbo V6 and still manages EPA ratings of 15 mpg city (very pessimistic, we averaged 17.5 mpg overall for the week we drove it) and 22 mpg on the highway. While we didn't get the chance to make a pure highway run, our experience with all of the newer cars (introduced in 2008 or later) is that 22 mpg is doable and probably exceedable.
