I have a 2006 sts with 3.6L engine which has 30K miles and uses a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Dealer says this is normal. I find it hard to believe a good engine would use this much oil. What is your opinion? That seems excessive to me. If it was mine, I would not be very happy. Take it back..or maybe to another dealer...and ask to have an "Oil Consumption Test" ran on it. There are some forms to fill out for when ever you have to put oil in it. There are specific guidelines as to how much oil usage is allowable. I have heard either 1 gt per 1500 miles, and have also heard 1 qt per 2000 miles. I don't know if that is right or not, but 1 qt per 1000 miles, (like yours is doing), is sure using a lot of oil.
