RRDrerup
Does anyone have any advice on replacing the shift solenoids on a 2001 STS without removing the tranny? Is it something I dare attempt myself? Is it something a shop will even attempt?
BodybyFisher
Yes a lot of postings on the subject. While it is not a hard job to do, it is a messy job and you MUST get the check balls back into their proper locations on reassembly. I would use proper assembly lube to keep them in their locations on reassembly. If the gaskets are not included, I would replace ALL gaskets that you run into doing this job. I have removed the upper control valve assembly and the gaskets became brittle and 'stick' to surfaces and crack. I ASSUME that all gaskets are included with the shift solenoid kit but would NOT be surprised if they were not included. Replace both solenoids and make sure you use the bracket that comes with them See this thread, there is a procedure and check ball location scans posted http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=21530 Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
